Seven Up
This pattern is danced in Open Facing Position, using a visual lead. The Seven Up is one of a number of Cha-Cha figures that can be done in this position. Similarly to the Chase Turns, first the leader dances the Seven Up, then the follower “answers.” So, the steps are the same for both partners. The pattern consists of seven steps. Each step except the last one takes half a beat; the seventh step gets a whole beat. So, the entire pattern takes exactly one measure (though, strictly speaking it starts with beat 2 of a measure and ends with beat 1 of the next).
After a forward rock (beats 2, 3) and a Backward Progressive movement (4-&-1), the Seven Up moves forward as follows:
Step
Right toe behind left heel (could do Rondé)
Replace weight on left foot
Right foot forward
Cross left foot behind right foot
Right foot forward (begin turning right; turn 1/8 R between this step and the next)
Left foot to the side
Close right foot to left foot

The last three steps are a “Guapacha Triple.” Next comes a Forward Rock Step and a Backward Progressive, while the other partner dances a Seven Up.
